RIP Webmonkey

Wired reports on the death of Webmonkey, a site where I found a good deal of my early knowledge about web authoring. It doesn't surprise me that it's gone down the tubes; there's been no redesign in recent memory, and that ALWAYS smacks of doom. (Hello Surfstation, breaker of promises?)
That said, it was good while it lasted. Vale Webmonkey,

Why couldn't they keep it on the Web, yet in an archived state, I wonder? For really fresh out of the box newbies, there's still some value to be had in all of those old tutorials.
Also, your theory that a lack of redesigns is a telltale sign of impending doom is interesting. I'd better get started on a facelift for my site, then!

Webmonkey does still seem to be there, at least for the moment. It's of historical interest if nothing else.
Khoi Vinh says:
Er, this is why I never would have made it as a journalist: a complete lack of presence of mind when it comes to fact checking. I stand corrected.
