Requiem for a Team

Not long after the final siren sounded, it started bucketing down. I staggered drunkenly into the street howling ‘Moooooooney’ (with props to Tennessee Williams) and hoping to be struck by lightening: the requisite dismal end to another promising season. By Saturday morning, I could hardly move. Three seconds. Three points.

Yet it’s only four days later and I’m already looking forward to next season, writing this one off as not our year, and contemplating whose number to iron onto my still-blank guernsey in time for the opening bounce in 2006. I love my Catters.

I still haven't had the courage to call my lifelong friend who barracks for the Cats and lives in Sydney. It's not even my team and I wanted to cry.
