Paul Hester RIP

Crowded House drummer Paul Hester committed suicide some time on Sunday - he'd apparently struggled with depression for a long time. He was 46. The music he helped create absolutely infused my final year of school, and the band played its last gig as a group of us sucked wine from the cask and passed the bong around during our summer post-exams celebration. Hester's joyous brush-work on the opening of Sister, Madly - particularly in that final live performance - is some of the happiest music I know, and I'm listening to it now.

Mel says:
Yeah I know - the Hez didn't mention suicide but The Age did. I think there will be a lot of Crowded House songs played today.
And from the "When the editor's away, the subs will play" department: the Herald Sun also had a story today about how the creator of the Beverly Hillbillies died. The headline: "Here's a story 'bout a man who's dead".
