Music For Blood

In January last year, Ray Charles played the Melbourne Blues Festival. In general terms, the event was a pretty expensive, uncomfortable way to spend a hot and dusty weekend, but Ray lifted it out of the mire it would've become had it rained, his umpteenth performance of Georgia On My Mind bringing most of the thousands-strong crowd to tears. He was what most of us strive to become: himself.* It was an in-the-presence-of-greatness moment. RIP Ray.
*This is not to say that I am striving to become Ray Charles.
