... I've been off the air lately for several reasons. Firstly, I've had two colds back-to-back, both horrible up-all-night-coughing types. I'm an excellent cougher, I've discovered. Secondly, I've been working for the Greens, doing day-to-day management of their website, as well as collating and writing things for their campaign blog. The internet is an awesome tool for the less resourced political groups out there, and the Greens are using it better than their wealthier peers, for soliciting campaign contributions and organising volunteers, as well as for promoting policy, delivering press releases and introducing candidates.

Behind the site is Plone, an open-source content management system of immense and sometimes unwieldy proportions. It's fairly capable, but sometimes it takes me hours to figure out HOW to make it do something it's able to do. Compared with the smaller-scale CMSs I'm used to - like Movable Type and Textpattern - Plone is like using an axe to chop parsley. It gets the job done, but it's a bit of a blunt instrument, and I often find myself using brute force to get it to do what I want it to do. But I'm learning, and that's something.

For the rest of the hours in the day (you can tell there are lots of them), I'm working on a million design projects. When some of them are finished, I might post the results here.
