I couldn’t convince anyone else in the household to stay up into extra time and beyond, so I sat alone and watched the Socceroos seal their first entry into the World Cup in 34 years, tears streaming down my cheeks as Aloisi kicked the winning goal. I’ve never been much of a soccer fan - I’ve got enough on my plate already with football and cricket - but over the course of the two matches against Uruguay I’ve developed a thirst for it (and I’m FINALLY on top of the offside rule). Bring on the World Cup.

Views from the Floor

Tom Stringer says:

It was truly glorious.

I dared not move from my exact position for the last hour lest I jinx the whole thing and bring it all crashing down...again.

Joseph says:

Are you saying that the whole reason we've missed out on 30 years of World Cup glory is because Tom Stringer happened to shift slightly at inopportune moments? And would you mind terribly if someone were to medically induce paralysis during future important ties?

But ah.. my eyes are still wet. What a morning to wake up.

Mel says:

I still can't pronounce Uruguay properly... Damn you, Homer Simpson! And also, these comments are totally primary school, if you know what I mean...

Virginia says:

I'm reading Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point at the moment, and I'm sure he'd have something to say about reasons I've attracted five regular readers, three of whom went to primary school together. Weird.
