I’m regularly compelled to rant and rave on this blog; thankfully, few of those posts ever make it past my editor*. But this rubbish enrages me so thoroughly that I can barely see through the red mist: Howard wants to deny visas to overseas-adopted children of gay couples.

While being frankly sick of being an electoral punching bag for conservatives like Howard and his cronies, and even more sick of the people I ostensibly vote for keeping quiet on the subject for fear of some kind of backlash, it really does all feel par for the course when election time swings around. Duck and cover, gays and Muslims, IT’S ELECTION TIME.

This evilly ingenious move to combine the red-button topics of homos and foreign devils, though, is so far fucking out there that I’m more or less lost for words. As you can tell. Is this man telling us, in all seriousness, that a child would be better off in a Chinese orphanage than living happily (or even UNhappily) with a couple of queens in WA, or a pair of lezzos in Fittersroy? It boggles the mind, it really does. I was chatting on the weekend with a bloke who adopted his gorgeous 3 year-old daughter from China 18 months ago. He said that she still hordes food - hiding it in her mouth, or under her pillow - because she was so chronically underfed in the orphanage. BETTER THAN LIVING WITH HOMOS THOUGH.

Dear Mr Howard, you have forced me to use a reserved word on my blog thrice in one day. I would very much like it if you fucked off and left the rest of us alone.

It's unbelieveable that such terribly narrow-minded people can still get elected into office in developed countries... But you could still flee from the ignorant masses by moving to a more progressive country...
