Martha Stewart's release from prison this week has moved me to perform a couple of homey chores that I've been putting off for months, the most pressing of which was to stop my crappy Ikea bed from squeaking. This was achieved with a minimum of fuss in the end: I took the bed to pieces using the finest tools available (1 Ikea-supplied allen key, 1 nifty Ikea-supplied mini-spanner), waxed the troublesome joins with the base of a candle (ingenious) and put it back together again. Behold! The squeaks are banished - for now.
